What’s the key to success?

Don’t you hate it when you can give everyone else the best advice in the world to live the most amazing life they can, yet you find it hard to motivate and encourage yourself? Yep, me too!

I have the best intentions for myself to wake up early, exercise, blog and do all the things in my imagination but it just never happens and then I feel rotten and annoyed with myself at the end of the evening.

What a horrible way to live life, feeling stressed and annoyed at yourself.

So, I got thinking the other day, how can I improve my life? There’s so many ways and I’m really good at encouraging myself in my mind, I can get excited about the things I want to achieve, I’m really good at making lists, vision boards and all that stuff but when it comes down to the nitty gritty of actually doing what’s required of me, well, it just doesn’t happen without resistance. Which is blooming frustrating.

But, I am happy that I can actually visualise the things I want to do – because I went through a stage a few years back when I just couldn’t see past the day I was living. Which I found quite scary at the time because, I had never experienced a lack of imagination but, I realised this happens when you put a lot of pressure on yourself or have a lot of stress in your life.

So let’s get down to business, what’s the key to success?

  1. reignite your imagination – how I hear you ask? Find inspiration from looking through old holiday photos, read books and magazines, using online resources such a Pinterest to search for things that interest you – holidays, clothes, technology, make up, cars, art etc
  2. have a plan – write down an achievable list of daily jobs – keep this list down to 3-5 tasks so you don’t overwhelm yourself and get frustrated by an unrealistic list that’s as long as your arm
  3. be consistent – have a daily practice for example a daily exercise regime like a 5k run, a daily art practice that you post online so you’re accountable to your community to make sure you produce some content

For me personally points 1,2 and 3 are all really important but the reason I even wrote this post is down to point 3. When I was thinking about success the words consistent and commitment kept coming to my mind. It’s like with anything, unless you show commitment how will you ever succeed. Think back to something you went above and beyond for and achieved amazing results like, your school days when you would put in extra hours to a project you were really interested in and got full marks for it. Or a friendship that you showed commitment to, meeting your friends and getting to know them, each time you met you’d get to know them better and have more and more fun.

Another example is, brushing your teeth. Every morning when you wake up, you make a commitment to yourself to brush your teeth before you eat – this is called being consistent. This simple task keeps your teeth clean and your breath fresh. Imagine if you didn’t complete this daily task, you’d have terrible oral hygiene and probably wouldn’t feel very confident talking to people.

So that’s the same with daily tasks to reach the level of success we all imagine. If you want to lose weight and be fit, then it’s important to commit to some level of daily exercise. If you want to make more money it’s important to commit to doing the work required daily to achieve more success, rather than putting it off until the last minute.

Someone who inspires me to commit to consistent daily practice is Casey Neistat – he has been vlogging every day for an entire year and has reached immense levels of success, growing his YouTube channel by over 2million subscribers! Check out his 365th video here…

I myself need to take on all these points to achieve the level of success I envision for my life. My new mantra is DAILY CONSISTENT COMMITMENT  – feel free to use it and I hope it brings you the success you are looking for.
